LEEDS
LIFE
VOLUME
ONE
In our first volume of stories, we focus on six fascinating chapters from the history of Leeds. Did you know Goth started in the city in the 1980s? Why has Leeds United never won the European Cup? What prompted a group of women to march under the banner of “Reclaim the Night” in 1977? All this, plus roller skating, African and Caribbean health workers and a people’s history of Leeds Kirkgate Market. 1000s of copies of the book have been distributed in the city, but you can read all of the stories below.
A Leeds Older People’s Forum project, funded by Heritage Lottery.

AUDIO
STORIES
Hear directly from the people who feature in our chapters. We record all our interviews to make sure that when we quote people, we are presenting their stories in the their own words. These short audio clips give you a flavour of the diverse stories on offer.
